Florida Safety on Rainy Days
When the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean hurricane season hits, Florida is often in the headlines, but we’re well-prepared to protect you and your real estate against whatever category comes its way. The government offers endless resources through the Department of Environmental Protection, among others, to help keep coastal city and inland residents prepared for anything. Building codes are updated as technology improves, creating safer homes and more security against even the worst storms. So even when rainy days happen, Florida is prepared to remain the Sunshine State.
Florida’s Safest Cities
From Florida’s largest cities, such as Miami and Orlando, to its small towns, communities look after each other in the Sunshine State. Whether it’s over a shared geography or a shared identity, Floridians have each other’s backs. Organizations like Equality Florida provide a touchstone for any Florida residents who feel discriminated against, especially among the LGBTQ+ community. Florida Rising is another statewide effort to support marginalized communities and empower Floridians to create safe places for everyone.
In addition to the state’s community support, certain localities in Florida stand out for their low crime rates. Marco Island, Weston, Winter Springs, Satellite Beach, Port St. Lucie and North Palm Beach all top the lists of safest places in Florida by crime data.
For instance, Satellite Beach, an Atlantic Coast city in central Florida, has a total crime rate of 7.13, which is nearly 250% less than the national average. Weston in South Florida has one of the lowest violent crime rates in the state at 0.46, 87% less than the national average. Marco Island, a Gulf Coast community south of Naples and the safest in Florida, has a property crime rate of 4.58, or 360% less than the national average.
Resources and Response Systems
Florida’s resources to respond to crisis extends beyond just law enforcement.Whether it’s mental health, financial crises or natural disasters, Florida has multiple systems in place to provide safety and security for Floridians affected by hardship. The Department of Education’s Education Disaster Relief Payments, helps to keep teachers above water when they need it the most. Local chapters of groups like the United Way are also present in Florida to provide assistance when hardship strikes, making sure that no Floridian goes without the support they need.
